GARDEN CITY, NY, December 22, 2009 -- Michael J. Garibaldi, CPA/ABV/CFF has been named to Long Island Business News 2009 list of Who's Who In Forensic Accounting. Garibaldi is President and Chief Executive Officer of Israeloff, Trattner & Co., CPAs, PC, and the officer in charge of the firm's Law Firm Services, Forensic Accounting, Litigation and Valuation Consulting Group.

Michael Garibaldi is responsible for the firm's strategic planning and overall firm policy decisions. He is also responsible for client contact, development and satisfaction in providing the firm's range of services in accounting, auditing, tax, computer and management consulting areas, in accordance with client needs. Businesses approach Garibaldi to provide forensic services and fraud audits in order to uncover misappropriated assets; provide business valuations to identify the true economic income of a company; and provide damage analyses to determine the amount of losses a company suffered due to the actions or inactions of another party.

When fraud strikes a business, panic is a common but not very desirable response. "Having a fraud contingency plan helps ensure that the business knows just what to do to minimize fallout and get the investigation underway immediately" Garibaldi said. "This includes having the right members for a fraud investigation team and communicating effectively with employees, the public and other stakeholders. Retaining an expert before illegal activity is effective preventive medicine because they will look for signs of fraud and wrongdoing, monitor and review activities, and design and implement an effective internal control system to deter and detect those fraudulent activities." Once those controls are in place, Garibaldi said it is imperative to do annual checkups to ensure that the system that was designed is still in place, relevant and not being circumvented.

A business valuation and forensic accounting specialist, Garibaldi works closely with closely held businesses and professional practices, retail chains, and large multi-million dollar real estate groups where he is responsible for providing accounting and management consulting services, business valuations, tax planning and financial reporting. Garibaldi qualifies as an expert witness on valuation matters in New York Supreme, Nassau Supreme, Suffolk Supreme and Westchester Supreme courts and has been called upon by the courts to serve as a neutral expert. A Certified Public Accountant who is certified in Financial Forensics with an Accreditation in Business Valuation, Garibaldi is a candidate member of the American Society of Appraisers; member of the Institute of Business Appraisers; and former President and member of the Nassau Chapter of the NYS Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a member of the Long Island Chapter of The American Society of Appraisers and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, NYSSCPA and the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
